What to do When You Can’t Travel

should you use a travel agent for Disney

What to do when you can’t travel and you have that travel bug itch but you just can’t scratch it!

The travel bug is a tricky little thing. It promises you culture, new adventures, and the freeing feeling of being away from the norm. The issue is, most of us can’t have those experiences on a whim. It takes planning, funds, and the ever elusive time off from your 9-5. So, what do we do? What can you do when you’ve got that travel bug scratching at your back but you just can’t reach it when you’d like to?

Start that savings account!

You may not have the dough right now, but opening an account specifically for your next adventure can be very helpful. Many banks will allow you to label it with a nickname of your choice. You can always start small if you’re not sure you’ll be any good at saving up. $5 here and there really goes a long way. When you can do more, you do more.

Narrow down the options

When you know where you’ll be going, you’ll know how much you’ll need to save! You’ll be able to set a specific goal for travel expenses, and even a separate one for spending money wherever you’ll be.

Working through that PTO

Since it will most likely be a bit before you get to head out on vacation, figuring out how much time off you have will be very important. If you have other things on the docket that you’ll need time off for, it would be a good idea to see how much time you have so you’ll be able to fit in everything you need to.

Start a side hustle

Sometimes that 9-5 isn’t quite enough to get you to where you want to be. Grab a part time job as a waitress, or selling things online. Any little thing helps when you have the world to see! Not sure where to start? Check out my Ultimate List of Money Saving and Making Strategies While at Home for somewhere to start!

Get some inspiration!

Search through Insta, Google search where you want to go, what you want to do to get the blood flowing and mind gears moving. Excitement over a new trip is great motivation to go through the above options. Vision boards are great for that, especially when you put them up somewhere that will get you excited every day about what is to come.

Now that we have the tools to keep us occupied while daydreaming of sandy beaches, ancient ruins or rain forests, let’s get out there and turn daydreaming into reality!

See you next week Sea Babes!

  1. Good ideas. I tried to click on your highlighted area about Ultimate List of Money Saving and Making but it did not let me in. It might just be my laptop today, it has been very slow, but maybe check it in case it is not just me.

  2. This post is definitely for me because I have the travel bug bad. This will be the 1st time in 10 years that I won’t be traveling. I’m going to look into a side hustle.

    1. Side hustle away! Who knows how long it’ll be before all the restrictions are lifted. I have an Ultimate List of Money Saving and Making Strategies that I think you could benefit from. When I get it back up and running again, I’ll send the link your way to see if you’re interested!

    1. Yeah and for who knows how long. With some of the countries opening up, I’m hoping to get traveling myself again soon, and hopefully booking travel for some people again soon as well. Let me know if I can ever help you with your travel planning! I’d be honored to help 🙂

  3. Love these ideas! I’m a flight attendant and have been on leave since March, so I’ve been itching to travel so much! I’ll take this time to create a new bucket list using inspiration I find online!

    1. I always wanted to be a flight attendant to travel more, but I realized pretty quickly that I sometimes get nauseous on flights so it’s probably best that I’m just a traveler lol I’d be happy to help you talk through some places and see what we can do with your flight discounts and my resort and hotel knowledge! I’m hoping things open up soon. I want to get my butt on a beach, or see a new foreign city so bad right now.
